Our Doctors

Dr. Lawrence M Fox

A native of Chicago, Dr. Lawrence M. Fox received his DVM degree from the University of Illinois in 1968. At the time, he was the youngest veterinarian in the country. He returned to Chicagoland after serving as a Captain in the US Army Veterinary Corps in Washington state. He established the Elmwood-Grove Animal Hospital in 1972.

In 1981, Dr. Fox became one of the first 37 veterinarians in the country to become board-certified in Canine and Feline Practice, as a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. He has since been re-certified every 10 years, and is now one of only 900 ABVP Diplomates in the United States and abroad. What does that mean? A Diplomate makes a choice to undergo a long and difficult process of additional studies and examination to become a board certified specialist recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). This process takes a minimum of three years to complete and the motivation behind it is, very simply, excellence. ABVP Diplomates have proven knowledge and expertise above and beyond what is required to practice veterinary medicine. Beyond that, they have earned the privilege to specialize in the treatment of one or more categories of animals. How does this affect you? You can rest easy knowing your animals are receiving expert treatment because your veterinarian feels a strong commitment to providing the best possible care.

Dr. Fox has been actively involved in the community through service and school organizations. He and Hairy are happy to make an annual appearance at the Elmwood Park High School's Career Day. He was a founding director of the Animal Care League in Oak Park. He has served as an Executive Board member and President of the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association. He co-founded the CVMA's Public Education committee & co-chaired it for 14 years. He has appeared regularly in the electronic media, edited "Chicago Vets on Pets" for the Sun-Times and Pioneer Press and belongs to Mensa. He is also a published author on veterinary topics including novel treatments for canine parvovirus & innovative surgical techniques.

Dr. Fox and his wife are the parents of 3 adult sons and share their home with numerous pets. When not working or babysitting their grandchildren, the Foxes enjoy movies and ballroom dancing.

Dr. Kathleen Heneghan

Dr Heneghan & Rollo

Dr. Kathleen Heneghan grew up on the Northwest Side of Chicago and received her bachelor's degree from Loyola University. She first came to us as a University of Wisconsin veterinary student extern in 1993. Upon graduation, she joined us as a full time doctor in July of 1994. Veterinary medicine is her true calling, and her interests include dermatology, oncology, behavior, ultrasound and surgery. Over the years, she has adopted pets that "found" her at work: an occupational hazard! Rollo, her Boxer-Pit, came to her in the summer of 2017, and has been keeping her busy ever since. Don't they both have great smiles?!!

Dr. Heneghan has been active in the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) since graduation and served as CVMA President in 2007. She followed Dr. Fox as chair of their Public Education committee for several years. She has regularly contributed to newspaper articles and appeared on local television, as well as at pet shows and school career days. She is a charter member of the Loyola University Biology Alumni Advisory Board and is a frequent attendee at their student networking events.

She loves to travel and works to support that habit. In her free time, she also enjoys traditional Irish (and other) music, spending time with family and friends, and exploring new places around town. As Dr. Fox says, she is a great communicator (aka "she talks a lot") and is delighted to get to know her patients and clients. Oh, and she wants you all to know that the Charlie's Angels pose was her idea!

Dr. Sydney Bobo

Dr. Sydney Bobo graduated with honor from the University of Illinois in 2012.  While in school she served on the board for the Hill's Student Feeding Committee, American Association of Feline Practitioners, and the Non-Traditional Species Club. She also found time to play roller derby for the Twin City Derby Girls and hopes to find time to play again!  After school she spent almost two years working at an exotics/emergency practice in the Chicago area.  While she really loved working with a wide variety of species, she missed the dogs/cats that she had originally went to school for.  When a position opened up at Elmwood-Grove Animal Hospital, she knew it was the right move for her.

Dr. Bobo currently resides in Chicago with her four cats (Linus, Floyd, Boris and Betty White).  When not at work, or her second home (the gym), she is busy remodeling their house, as well as enjoying all the wonderful things that Chicago has to offer.

... when they are not out helping puppies and kitties, they are working at Charles Townsend Agency as private investigators!

Congratulate Us...

For more than 40 years, our veterinarians and staff have been providing compassionate and quality health care for your pets in River Grove and the surrounding areas. In February 2011, Mayor May and all elected officials of River Grove honored us with a Proclamation!

Below is a picture from that wonderful night!
